Our Place

Summit combines a fully operating vineyard, winery, art gallery, coffee shop and  cellar door in a location alive with breathtaking views and natural scenery at the summit of the Granite Belt region.

History

A group of families with a passion for wines, purchased the 20-acre property at Thulimbah just north of Stanthorpe in 1997. They chose Queensland’s oldest, cool climate wine region to pursue their vision of not only producing premium wines, but also sharing the wine lifestyle experience with winery visitors. Today the group of enthusiasts that form part of summit family have grown as has the quality of the wine. For the future we hope to involve you in our selection of friends that share our good wines,  and our events and to anyone that drinks our wines in those special moments of life.

Vineyard.

In late 1997, two acres of vineyard was established including Shiraz, Zinfandel, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Granache. This was a trial plot to determine which particular grape varieties were most suitable to the microclimate of the vineyard. In November 2000, a further five acres were planted, including Verdelho, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Shiraz and Tempranillo.

A further 3 acres was planted during 2003 at our Summit Estate Vineyards, mainly Chardonnay, with a little more Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Tempranillo. In 2006 we planted Monastrel ( Southern Spain name for Mataro) and Viognier and finally in 2007 we planted Marsanne, Malbec and Muscat of Alexandria

Winery
Our winery  is a 50 tonne winery located in South East Queensland's Granite Belt region. Our philosophy is to produce European still wines and Queensland's finest red wines. In 2005 an estate-of-the-art winery was built, which was named the church and we carefully look after the wines that we gently move by gravity in all the winemaking proses.

Cellar door

An existing fruit and vegetable packing shed was converted to a unique cellar door in 1997. The cellar door caters to over 100 visitors, with the emphasis on the promotion of premium wines and wine education.

In 2007 we opened our new room “La Cave” for group wine tasting at candle light where we cellar 14000 bottles of wines in an atmosphere controlled environment.

Summit Cellar Door is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm for tastings, winery tours and cellar door sales.  A visit will provide the perfect opportunity for the ultimate wine experience that you will never forget.

Lunches - by arrangement, tour groups are welcome to enjoy their own morning or afternoon tea in the vineyards.

A visit to Summit is fun, informative and a feast for the senses.  At the end of your visit, take home Queensland's finest wines to complete your cellar.

The Granite Belt has a wide range of accommodation places, restaurants, cafes, galleries, cellar doors, wine tours, plus a range of unique businesses including a Cheese Factory, soup Factory, Lavenda shops and a Maze. Don't forget the national parks and very close to us Donnelly's castle . For more information please visit the Granite Belt wine country website. The cellar door staff at Summit Estate also are a wealth of local information on the Granite Belt.
